ABOUT THIS PIECE

This portrait of Hannah Gibbs is an early work from the expansion series, at at point where I was still developing this style of part expressionist portrait with inky abstraction, wanting it to have the full drama of the theater (appropriate for a lighting technician) without losing the lightness of the bottom half.

When Hannah & I had our conversation, she randomly mentioned that she feels most calm standing in the middle of a creek. Ultimately that was the deciding factor for how to solve the background.
